TintoNegro, ('black wine' in Spanish) is a small project started a few years ago by Alejandro Sejanovich and Jeff Mausbach, who worked together for 15 years at one of Argentina's most esteemed winery, Catena Zapata. TintoNegro wines are meant to reflect the heart and soul of Malbec in Mendoza - Known for its dark, blackish color, Malbec is definitely a TintoNegro. The portfolio explores the terroirs of Mendoza where Malbec does best, gradually isolating unique vineyard sites and winemaking techniques which can showcase the heights of concentration and complexity to which Malbec can aspire.
The terroir where the vines grow is indicated on the name - Rocky limestone soil, with parcels situated in the South of the Uco Valley in the Mendoza, at an altitude of almost 1,200m above sea level, some of the highest of the Country, and grown organically. Aged for 9 months in oak barrels, its inky/blue/purple color is followed by a sweet perfume of crushed rock minerality, acacia flowers, blackberries and cassis as well as a hint of vanillin. This is a powerful, concentrated, impressively endowed Malbec.
Conclusion: A smooth, delicate yet flavorful Malbec, showcasing the cool climate it grows in.
