Smirnoff Vodka No. 21 owes its numbering to the 20 unsuccessful attempts that preceded the satisfactory formula. It has been discovered in 1864 in the Moscow distillery. Vladimir Smirnov, the creator's son, had to flee Russia after the Bolshevik revolution, beginning an adventurous journey which led him to settle in the United States. He had previously "francized" the name of his vodka. Lacking the necessary funds, he sold the brand in 1934 to a naturalized Russian-American, director of cosmetics Helena Rubinstein, who set up the distillery in Connecticut. Smirnoff is today owned by the British group Diageo.
Smirnoff Blue Label is a super premium version made in Great Britain. It has the n° 57 in the internal classification of the producer, but it is based on the original Smirnoff n° 21. The strength of the alcohol (50 °C) distinguishes it from its sisters. It is distilled 3 times with demineralised water, from a blend of cereal grains. It is filtered 10 times over 7 columns of activated charcoal, from birch, maple or beech. The translucent 1l bottle dressed in blue allows a glimpse of Blue Label's** crystalline appearance. The nose is grainy, with a sweetness behind the alcohol.
Extremely pure, it combines strength and suppleness and leaves a pleasant vanilla note on the palate. Its purity and vigour make it particularly suited to give personality and resistance to countless blends and cocktails.
